Upgrading shorepower from 30a to 50a

Our marina offers power at each riser for either 30a or 50a. The 50a service can be at 240v and, I assume, at 120v. Our 40' trawler has a 30 amp 120v service. It takes careful juggling of 120v loads to keep from tripping the boat's main breaker. With space heaters running in the winter, that's especially difficult.

I've been considering adding more capacity but want to avoid the big expense of replacing the entire panel. I've been thinking about ways to do this and thought about just adding a new 30a connection tieing into a new very small panel that just provides power to space heaters and maybe the water heater. Of course, that would mean I'd have to plug into the 50 amp socket, using an adapter to a 30a shorepower cable. This scheme felt okay until I got to the part about using the 50a socket.

What advice can you offer?
