The channel for about a kilometre below the penitentiary, between Washburn and Kingston Mills is choked with weeds - only an issue with low powered vessels like sailboats and trawlers. Cutting is due to start 'soon'.

The cutting has started on the River Styx—Does it ever end?—but chances are pretty good that you'll still need to pause now and then and clear your props.

We encountered the Parks Canada mechanical harvester when northbound on the Rideau in early June.
