Labor Day in Knoxville, a must do!

Greetings from Knoxville,

I just wanted to share with the group what an incredible fireworks show
Knoxville puts on for Labor Day weekend. We were told about this show, the
largest in the southeast, by some cruisers we met in the Exumas this past
spring. At the time we didn't really have any summer cruise plans so we
said; "What the heck, let's cruise to Knoxville for Labor Day weekend!", and boy
were we happy we did. The fireworks are just too awesome to describe, and
the best part is that you are anchored out and the show happens right on
the river bridge above you. I won't go into great details but what a party
Knoxville throws for 400,000 guests. We will have the blog updated later
on this week so you can read about "BoomsDay", I'll also give the best
location to anchor for "prime-viewing". Our hats go off to the City of
Knoxville, you done good!! If you have a "Cruising Bucket List", put this event on
that list, you won't be sorry you did!

If you do decide to make it up this far be sure and go to the "end of
navigation" on Tellico Lake/Little Tennessee River. I have marked the
anchorage and made notes on this area on We spent a few days at
this anchorage cooling off in 60 degree water, enjoying the wonderful view
of the Smokies, and watching the anchor lie on the bottom of the river in
10 feet of water! Photos and stories of this area are already noted on our

I guess it's now time to slowly head back down the river!

Nice post; my favorite spot on the Little Tennessee, and all the upper Tennessee itself, is in front of Fort Loudon State Park; the replica 1700's British fort on the west and the Great Smokys on the east. I've marked it on Active Captain, just a few miles downstream of your anchorage.
