Inverter

Curious about your inverter installation. Wanting to run minor electronics such as TV, CD, and small stuff (1000 amps max). Best product out there etc. Thanks.

You really need to determine what you want to run off of the inverter and then size it accordingly. For a boat I recommend you stay with a marine inverter rather than one designed for an RV or auto. You can run into wiring issue with these due to the type of grounding used and the neutral connections. Take the wattage numbers for all of the appliances, amps times volts equal watts, or look at the specs for the appliance, add them all together and add at least another 20%. This should give you an idea of the size of the inverter. There are several manufacturers of marine inverters that do a good job. I recommend staying away from Xantrex right now as their quality control and customer support leaves something to be desired. I have just installed a ProMariner and will be posting the installation on our Beach House website some time today. An inverters efficiency is rated at 80% to 90% and they become much less efficient under light loads. Many appliances, chargers, etc. with electronic components may not like a modified sine wave inverter, although we have used them for years with no issues. If you want to be on the safe side, i would suggest a true sine wave inverter and most are going in this direction now. Hope this helps and let me know if you need more. Chuck
